James Francis Lercher “Jim” of McRae passed away May 29, 2019. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Herman and Elizabeth Lercher. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, William Lercher and John Lercher. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Lercher, ten sons Jim H. Lercher (Gloria) of Little Rock, Rodney Lercher (Sherry) of Sheridan, Joseph Lercher of McRae, Michael Lercher of McRae, Thomas Lercher (Margie) of McRae, Mark Lercher(Alice) of Searcy, Frank Lercher (Pam) of Clarksville, Tenn., Robert “Bob” Lercher of McRae, Steve Lercher (Tanya) of Searcy, David Lercher (Laine) of Buckeye, Arizona, five daughters, Sandra Cowgill of Pryor, Okla., Diane Bausom (Mark) of Conway, Theresa Gilliam of McRae, Mary Elsinger of Conway and Elizabeth “Liz” McReynolds (Bruce) of Beebe. He is also survived by 40 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. Jim graduated from Glenbard High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. In his early years he worked in construction on the campus of what was then Harding College. He also worked for Wood Freeman Lumber Co., and later worked at Remington Rand as a supervisor. Upon retiring in 1974, he started farming full time which was his passion. He and his family raised cattle, hogs and chickens. In 1979, the family was honored as the White County and North Central District Farm Family of the Year. Jim always had a project to work on and he instilled that work ethic in all of his children. Jim valued education and, in the evenings, you could always find him with a book in his hand. Jim was a long time member of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
