Canton – Jack Connell Chason, 86, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Roy Gaines and Ellie Lou Connell Chason. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Austin Chason, who died in 2013; one brother and his wife, Foster and Lois Chason. Jack retired from American Enka with 23 years of service and then worked for Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College and Haywood County School System. Jack was a United States Army veteran having served in Europe. He is survived by three sons, David Chason (Teresa) of Canton, Derek Chason (Carolyn) of Cornelius, North Carolina and Don Chason (Patti) of Harrisburg, North Carolina; one brother, Alvin Chason (Betty) of Hendersonville; and five grandchildren, Jessica Chason Reed (Zack), Kyle, Charley, Casey and Tess Chason. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Ronnie Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 200 Mount Carmel Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
