Sarah Henrietta Haywood Tomberlin, 87, of Mt. Gilead passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019. A Private Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Tedder Family Cemetery. Rev. Glen Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service from 4:00 until 6:00 at the home of her sister Rowena Sikes, 878 Haywood Road, Mt. Gilead, NC 27306 Henrietta was born December 18, 1931 in Montgomery County to the late Henry and Jennie Haywood. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Haywood. She is survived by her son James H. Tomberlin, Jr (Tina) of North Myrtle Beach, SC. One granddaughter Lindsey Shelton (Johnathan) and one great grandson Jaxson Shelton all of Monroe. She is also survived by two step-granddaughters Allison Hinson (Robert) and Meghan Conner (Charles) and eight step-great grandchildren all of Marshville. In addition she is survived by her sister Rowena Sikes; sister in law Ellen Haywood Lambert of Mt. Gilead; two nephews Bobby Haywood of Mt Gilead and Mack Haywood (Nancy); two great nephews all of Raleigh. After graduating from Mt. Gilead High School she earned an associate degree in business administration from Kings College of Charlotte. She worked at Kendall Manufacturing in Charlotte for several years as a secretary until they closed their doors. Later she worked at Celanese Corporation of Charlotte in the research and safety department. After retiring she spent a lot of her time caring for her mother and sister. She volunteered at the Montgomery Humane Society and was an active member of her church, Melton’s Grove Methodist. Henrietta loved her animals, was a hard working business woman, and will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Memorials may be made to First Health Hospice of Pinehurst, NC.
