Hazel’s Obituary Hazel Wagner, 96, of Sutherland, died Sunday, May 26, 2019, at the Sutherland Care Center. Hazel was born February 3, 1923, to Roy and Orinda Hedges at Lamar, Nebraska. She grew up Chase County and graduated from Chase County High School at Imperial. Hazel then moved to Denver where she worked for Goodyear. In 1942 Hazel wed Dixie Martin at Imperial where they made their home. The couple had a son, Jesse, then in July of 1945 Dixie died as the result of a car accident while in Cimmeron, Kansas. Hazel married Fred Wagner in February 1947 and they farmed in Imperial for many years until moving to Loveland, Colorado in 1966. Hazel returned to Imperial in the late ’90’s and resided at the Sunset Apartments and later Imperial Manor until her health declined and she moved into the Sutherland Care Center in 2015. While in Imperial, Hazel was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary and many different clubs. She was preceded in death by both husbands, Dixie Martin and Fred Wagner; her son, James Wagner; parents, Roy and Orinda Hedges; brothers, Marvin, William, Elza ‘Doc’ and infant Gene Russell Hedges; and sisters, Genevieve Rowley and Doris Yonker. Hazel is survived by her sons, Jesse (Linda) Martin, of Sutherland, Floyd (Dana) Wagner, of Springfield, Colorado and Lynn Wagner, of Loveland, Colorado; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Gale (Gaynell) Hedges, of Modesto, California and Dick (Waydean) Hedges, of Commerce City, Colorado; sister, Vada (Clarence) Blakesly, of Holyoke, Colorado; and other family.
