George H. “Bud” Walker, Jr., 88, of New Bedford, passed away Friday, May 3, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital, in New Bedford, after a brief illness. He was the husband of 57 years to the late Bernice T. (Medeiros) Walker. Born in Acushnet, son of the late George H. and Aurora (Texeira) Walker, he was a lifelong resident of New Bedford and graduate of New Bedford High School. George served proudly in the Army during the Korean War and later worked at Stride Rite and as the ton at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish for over 30 years. He was also the former Commander of the Poirier Post VFW #3260 in New Bedford. Survivors include four sons, David A. Walker and his wife Carol of Dartmouth, Steven A. Walker and his wife Carolann, Richard D. Walker and George H. Walker, III all of New Bedford; two daughters, Susan E. Roderiques and her husband John of Fairhaven and Darlene M. Blanchette and her husband Brian of South Dartmouth; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a brother in law, Ernest Medeiros of SC. George was the father of the late Lori A. Walker and brother of Sister Dolora-Marie Walker, SHC. Calling hours are Tuesday, from 4-7PM, in the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford. His funeral will be Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at 9:00AM, from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, New Bedford. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Transition House, 344 County St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
