Canton – Genevieve Swanger Reeves, 94, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. Born in Young Harris, Georgia, she had lived in Canton since the age of two. Genevieve was the youngest of eight children born to Rufus Fulton Swanger and Velda Gragg Swanger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Wiley Howard Reeves, who died in 2014. Genevieve was a business clerk for Carolina Power and Light Company, and also worked as a credit clerk for Sears in Waynesville. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Canton for more than 65 years, where she had been a choir member, a G.A. leader, and active with the Women’s Missionary Union. She is survived by one daughter, Linda R. Bolden and husband, Rex, of Matthews, North Carolina; one son, Martin H. Reeves and wife, Manina, of Knoxville, Tennessee; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Darrell Webb and Reverend Marvin Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
