Hickory, NC passed away Monday May 6, 2019. He was born June 13, 1933 in Catawba County to the late Gaither Sherrill Hester and Daisy Bost Hester. He was a member of Clinton Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church and a graduate of the Ridgeview Class of 1950 where he was a member of the Panthers football team. He also retired from Drexel Heritage. He was preceded in death by one son, William Hester, and by two sisters Barbara Jean Hester and Josephine Hester. He leaves to cherish loving memories, his wife Irene Hester of the home; his children Rev. Michael (Wanda) Hester of Hickory, Tim (Karen) Hester of Grayson, Ga., Gaither Lynn Hester of Hickory, Kimberly (Shawn) Miller of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Tiffany (Carlos) Edmonds of Upper Marlboro, Md.; his siblings, Lynwood Hester and Eleanor B. Davis both of Hickory, NC; thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Clinton Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church, with the Rev. Dr. Anthony Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery.
