Darlene G. McCarthy 1949 – 2019 West Springfield – Darlene G. (Paroline) McCarthy, 70, passed away peacefully Easter Evening at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late Paul and Marie Paroline she grew up in Springfield but spent much of her life as a West Springfield resident where she raised her family. Darlene was a bookkeeper but took many years off to be a full-time mother to her beloved children; who were always gracious enough to make sure she had her hands full. “Dar” was a connoisseur of the simpler things in life such as a fresh cup of coffee and the occasional game of chance. Those who were fortunate enough to know her will always remember the genuine love and pride she had in her family both immediate and extended. They will also fondly remember her skittishness towards small, rodent-like animals; her propensity to speak in the third person to quip “oh c’mon, be nice to Mom”; and the fresh meals she would cook for her beloved dog Toto. She is survived by her son John McCarthy and daughter Jamie Whitehead; grandchildren Hailey and Connor; brother James; sisters Judith, Jeanette, and Maureen; and best friend/partner in crime Cecil. She joins her late brothers Gerald, Phillip and Paul; and late sisters Marie and Rochelle. In keeping with Darlene’s wishes services will not be held. “Dar” would hate to have anyone mope over her. A celebration of her life will be held for her family. Those wishing to honor her memory can do so with a glass of White Zinfandel or a donation made to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929 in her name. All arrangements are being handled by Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Darlene G Paroline McCarthy March 2 1949 April 21 2019 (age 70).
