Obituary Dale LeVon Merritt 81, of Fearrington Village, Pittsboro, NC, passed away December 10, 2018 at home. Born on January 10, 1937, he was the son of the late David Stanley Merritt and Okereda (Smith) Merritt Stouffer. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley (Junior) Merritt. Dale is survived by his wife of 59 years Sue Silcox Merritt; two daughters, Kimberly Ruth Merritt, Chapel Hill, NC, and Jennifer Kay Merritt and husband Paul Chatterton, Hamilton Ontario, Canada. He was a beloved grandfather to Caldwell James Butler and Kaufman Sue Butler plus granddogs, Elton and George. He was a 1955 graduate of Allegany High School . Dale was a 1962 graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Dale owned and operated Merritt-Adams Funeral Home until his retirement in 2001. Dale was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Friends will be received at Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 11 AM – 1 PM. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home following the visitation at 1 PM, with Rev. Donald Sause, officiating. Interment will be held in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
