Dale Emery Meyer, 85, passed away at his home in Kensett, Iowa, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. A funeral will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Bethel United Methodist Church 503 E South St, Manly, starting at 11 a.m. with Reverend Don Preston officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave S, Northwood, from 5-7 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the funeral service. He was born on September 24, 1933, at home and raised in rural Garner by Harry and Esther (Lemke) Meyer. Dale graduated from country school in eighth grade, then from Garner High School. He had a passion for music and dance, which led him to the love of his life, Shirley Ann Olson, where they met at the Surf Ballroom. On January 16, 1955, the two were married. In his early years, he was drafted and served in the United States Army from November 1955 to August 1957. During his time in the service, the farm/equipment they just purchased had to wait. He took pride in farming, building Brock grain bins, til-ing and playing music (accordion, guitar and organ). Dale and Shirley had five children. They owned a lake home most of their married life, where he loved boating and pulling grandchildren around Lake Ada and Lake Koronis for various water sports. Dale also enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with the kids, playing and watching sports, supporting family in various activities, fishing, hunting, helping out with 4-H projects and hanging out with friends. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his family that loved him dearly. Dale served the community and was on several boards, including Commissioner of Worth County Soil and Water Conservation, Church Council, Northwood Co-Op Elevator Board, Worth Mutual Insurance Board and started the 4-H Snowmobile Club. Dale is survived by his wife of more than 64 years, Shirley; his brother, Dean (Mardine) Meyer; his sisters-in-law, Shirley Meyer and Darlene Polzin; his children, Dennis (Kathryn) Meyer, Barbara (Lyle) Jass, Janet (David) Solberg, Douglas (Pamela) Meyer and Sandra (David) Smith; his 13 grandchildren, Ryan (Kari Halverson) Meyer, Travis Meyer, Kristen (Casey) Shelton, Benjamin (Kathryn) Jass, Betsy (Joseph) Willing, Shane Solberg, Jeremy (Gina) Solberg, Shannon (Steve Mosley) Solberg, Melissa (Kent) Mittelstaedt, Nicole (Nicholas) Lauver, Courtney Meyer, Connor Smith and Sierra Smith; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
