Dr. James Hinkle will officiate .Visitation will be Saturday evening, May 11th from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Place of rest will be in the Dickson Union Cemetery. There will be full military honors. Colonel Wiley Walker, age 86, of Canyon, Texas formerly of Dickson County, died May 7, 2019, at Eden Hills Memory Center in New Braunfels, TX. Wiley Walker was born in Nashville, Tennessee on October 25, 1932, to the late Edwin and Ora Nicks Walker. Wiley obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He graduated from the Military Reserve Officer Program and joined the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant. He then received his master’s degree from Troy State in Alabama. While serving 26.5 years in the United States Army, Colonel Walker was stationed in numerous locations: Fort Hood in San Marcos, Texas, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Fort Ord, California, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Rucker, Alabama, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and Omaha, Nebraska. His foreign assignments included Iran, Turkey, and the Dominican Republic. During his active duty during wartime, Wiley did one tour in South Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was an Army Aviator for over 25 years of his active duty service. He served in the 1st Calvary Division, the 101st Airborne Division, and with the Special Forces. Colonel Walker served as an Engineer Platoon Leader, an Engineer Company Commander, and the Commander of two engineer Battalion. He served on the Army General staff and attended the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA. Colonel Wiley Walker was awarded 33 medals of which 30 were combat awards. After retiring from the army, Wiley took a position with CRS, an architecture and engineering firm in Houston, Texas. He spent a good deal of his time overseas and Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Kuwait, and Colombia, South America. In 1997, after a long and successful career, Wiley retired to Canyon Lake, Texas. Wiley is survived by his wonderful wife, Evelyn; six daughters, Kimberly Grant and husband Douglas, Melissa Kazy and husband Joel, Rebecca Kehoe and husband Robert, Julie Brannon, Amy Vela and husband Manny and Nancy Walker, his sister Harriett Hinkle and her husband, Dr. James Hinkle, thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
