Cerretha’s Obituary Cerretha Comer Davis, 89, formerly of 6th St., Shenandoah, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Sunnyside Retirement Home. Mrs. Davis was born February 5, 1930, in Shenandoah, VA., and was the daughter of the late, William Vernon and Mary Stoneberger Comer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Orvin “Hambone” Davis, Jr.; a son, Glenn Davis; a granddaughter, Katie Davis and nine siblings. One of the joys of her life was the many years she and Hambone welcomed family and friends to spends days or weeks in their home. Their most special friends were Hambone’s WWII comrades and their spouses who traveled from various states to Virginia to visit. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Shifflett and husband, Jimmy; sister, Ellen Comer of Arnold, MD; grandson, Jason W. Shifflett and wife, Sharon; loving great-grandson, Quinton D. Shifflett, who always made Great-Granny feel so wonderful; special nieces, Bridget and Susie who spent so much time with “Aunt Scoop” when they were growing up in Shenandoah, plus niece Denise and nephew Pete who were loyal throughout the years. Other surviving family includes nephews, Mike and Mitch Comer of TX; nieces, Wendy Mathias and Mary Pollack of Chesapeake and two granddaughters, Sara Shulz and Meg Davis both of PA. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff for the wonderful care that she received at Sunnyside during her illness. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2018, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Read More
