Bobby David “Bob” Hand , age 81, of Bessemer, formerly of Midfield, AL, passed away May 16, 2019. Bob was raised in Bayview. After serving in the US Air Force from 1956 until 1960, he worked for Pollock Paper Company, and retired after 34 years from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was a lifetime member of the Fairfield / Bessemer Elks Lodge. As a hobby he was very successful at building race cars from the mid-70s through the mid-90s. Bobby was preceded in death by his sons Gary Hand, Lee Hand, and Ricky Hand; his parents Ernest and Marie Hand; and his sister Eleanor Gay Strength. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Jo Hand; children Jeff Hand (Melanie), Kim Jackson (Kelly); grandchildren Josh Hand, Brandon Baker, Rachel Willis (Ben), Tiffany Sizemore, Whitney Hand, Kelli Jackson, Nicole, Ryan, Ross, and Rendy; numerous great grandchildren; and daughters-in-law Lisa Hand and Kim Hand. The visitation will be Sunday, from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 20, 2019, at the Funeral Home.
