McNeil will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 12604 SW Woodlawn Road, Lawton, Oklahoma with Rev. Jack Terrell-Wilkes, officiating. Billye J. McNeil, 86 of Lawton went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 as her loving family sat with her at bedside. Billye was born April 29, 1933 in Fairview, Oklahoma to Thelma Chase Potts and William Kennedy Mills. She attended St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Oklahoma City where she received her Associate Degree in Nursing. Upon graduation in 1954, she began her career as a Registered Nurse at Southwestern Hospital as supervisor of the Obstetric Floor where she worked for several years. As her children entered their teenage years, she felt the need to be home full time and immersed herself in their school activities. She was known as “The favorite mother on 31st Street.” After their graduation from high school, she then returned to college and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1984. She was involved with the beginning of the Lawton Dog Fanciers Association where she assisted with the obedience training of dogs. She was also a member of the Lawton Ft. Sill Kennel Club in Lawton and served as Secretary. She is survived by her husband, Bobby L. McNeil of Lawton, three children, Cathy Hammett, RN and son-in-law Danny Hammett both of Wichita Falls, Texas, Bobbie Kelly of Lawton, and Tim McNeil of Oklahoma City, five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed.
