Thelma Sweitzer, age 94, of Madison, OH, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Tripoint Hospital. She was born September 30, 1924 in Continental #2, in Fayette County, PA, to Calvin and Hazel (Brewer) Myers. She grew up in Whitsett, PA and graduated from Perryopolis High School in 1942. She moved to Cleveland in 1943, and started working at Parker Appliance, in Cleveland as a stock chaser, until 1945. It was there that she met James Sweitzer. They got married on July 5, 1947. They lived in Thompson before moving to Madison in 1958. She worked at Broadfield Manor Nursing Home in the housekeeping department as a bed maker. She loved helping all the residents there. She enjoyed gardening, word search puzzles, country music, going to country music concerts, playing UNO, Cleveland Indians, bingo, swimming, drinking McDonald’s coffee, parades, karaoke and especially going to the Lake County Fair in the dairy barn. Thelma was loved by all. She would always tell people she had a revolving door, as she always had friends coming over and welcomed them all. She was the loving mother of James Jr., Meribeth (Ken Cimino fiancé), and Sally (Fred Helmick) of Madison. Also surviving, her granddaughter, Rebecca (Becky Gee) of Hartville, OH and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Sr., parents, infant daughters Kathleen and Joy, sisters Mildred Oliver and Eleanor Young, and brothers Robert and William Myers. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Potti & Marc F. Burr Funeral Homes of Madison, 2726 Hubbard Road, Madison at 4 pm with Pastor Lenore Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Painesville OH. Arrangements are entrusted to the Potti & Marc F. Thelma was like a second grandmother to me. This is really heart breaking for me, it is going to take a long time to get over losing her.
