Robert S. “Bob” Ruscitti, 86, of Girard, died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at St. Vincent Health Center following a brief illness. He was born February 1, 1933 in Norwood, MA, a son of the late John J. and Mary E. (D’Alessandro) Ruscitti. Bob graduated from the Norwood High School in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May of 1952, during the Korean Conflict. He served aboard the USS Cassin Young (DD 793) as an Electricians Mate and had over three years of overseas service. He was awarded the China Service Medal (extended), the National Defense Service Medal; the Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Class), the Good Conduct Medal; the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Following his honorable discharge from the military he returned home and attended Wentworth Institute (1956-1958), receiving an Associate Degree in Engineering. He later attended Northeastern University, and Western New England College (1960-1966), where he graduated with a degree in Engineering and Management. Bob was employed by Kerr-Atkinson Engineers, (1958-1960); He later worked for Holyoke Water Power (1960-1966). He moved to Girard with his family in 1966 and began working at Copes-Vulcan in Lake City,(1966-1970); He was also employed at Kieley & Muller in Middletown, NY (1970-1972), returning to Copes-Vulcan and retiring from there in 1996 as an International Sales Manager. Bob was a long time member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard and was active in the Ushers Society and a Lector. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5430 of Girard; American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Elk Valley Golf Association. He loved golf, carpentry and making many items in his shop for friends and family. He also volunteered with TREC Erie for many years. Bob, along with his sidekick, Ed Erickson were the Master Chefs of the Gourmet Breakfasts held at St. Johns Parish Center for 25 years, but most of all, Bob was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Fan. Bob met and married the love of his life, Marilyn (Bready) Ruscitti on May 28, 1960 in Walpole, MA. The couple had a tradition throughout their lives, that at the 5 o’clock hour following a day of work, they would sit and have a cocktail together. Bob passed away at 4:45 on the very same day as his bride, Marilyn two years ago. She, waiting for him and continuing their tradition in eternity. He will be greatly missed by his family, which include four children, Marnie Hanson of Flowery Branch, GA, Joan Ball (Jay) of Vinton, VA, Robert S. Ruscitti II (Wendy) of Girard, and Elizabeth Horsemanko (Scott) of Erie; eight grandchildren, Timothy, Angela (Mike), Charles I (Mandi), Keith (Jaimie), Samantha (John), Maria (Jesse), Julianna and Thomas; his great grandchildren, Shyann, Raven, Charles II, Blake, Breanna, Cooper and Brooklin; sisters, Theresa Murphy, Elizabeth Jones, Sheila Ruscitti and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard. A Prayer Service will be held there on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church , 101 Olin Ave., Girard, with Rev.
