Horton 1925-2018 On January 6th, or possibly the 8th, 1925, Robert Charles “Bob” Horton was born in his family’s farm house on Horton Road in Kenosha, WI. He was the second born of Charles and Ione Horton, making him the younger brother of Eileen Newcomer and older brother to Audrey Horton, both of whom survive him. He grew up on the farm, and then served our country proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked alongside his father in their feed supply business “Charles Horton & Son,” which he established upon his return home. He married his one great love, Mae Wiersum, who survives him and whom he loved and served through 70 years and 8 months of marriage. His last thoughts and wishes were for her care and well-being and he continued to tell her how beautiful she is even through his final days. Bob was a devoted father to his four “perfect” daughters: Pam Holt, Marilyn (Steve) Gustafson, Nancy Horton (who preceded him in death in 1973), and Patti (Scott) Ericson. He was adored by them and dearly loved and admired by their husbands, his nine grandchildren; Becky (Adam) Callender, Joe (Stacie) Gustafson, Stephen Holt, Susie (Christian) Evans, Jeff (Faith) Gustafson, Katie (Greg) Schermier, Ryan (McCartney) Ericson, Mark (Hayley) Ericson, and Kaitlyn Ericson, his twenty-three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Gary Christofferson was a devoted family friend to him as well. In fact, he was admired and esteemed by nearly all who knew him, whether they were his drivers or staff at one of his businesses, his fellow members at the National Hay Association or Kenosha Bible Church where he was a member and served faithfully for decades, his neighbors, his breakfast buddies, or any one of the many people he would stop and chat with any time at any place. That was probably the most predictable thing about Bob Horton – he never knew a stranger – and he was famous for approaching anyone and starting with a firm handshake and introducing himself with “Hi! Bob Horton!” Everyone he crossed paths with was someone with whom he could find a commonality and share a laugh. He was a man who was passionate about God, his family and his country. He loved his birds and his farm. He never met an animal he didn’t like and every person he met had at least one redeeming factor. He never gave up and he did everything with integrity. He was a prankster and you could never trust him around his grandsons, especially when he had access to fireworks. His word was his bond and a handshake was a commitment. He had a passion for antique pickups and a loyalty to Chevrolet. He lead by example in all areas of his life and his legacy will live on in everyone that knew him. He lived a very full life in his almost 94 years. He tried his best to live honorably, to fulfill his obligations, and to love well all those who were placed in his life. He valued family, friends, and God’s grace above all. He will be genuinely and profoundly missed, until we see him again… A visitation will be (TODAY) Sunday December 30th, 2018 from 2:00 -3:00 P.M. at Kenosha Bible Church, 5405-67th Street.
