U.S. Veteran

Gary Riley, 71, of Homewood, IL passed away Tuesday evening February 19, 2019 surrounded by his family.  Beloved husband of Ellen nee Kane.  Loving father of Martin Riley and Terri Riley.  He was a cherished grandfather of Liz Riley.  Fond brother-in-law to Martin and Mary Kane.   Loving uncle to Debbie (Marty) Lubeck, Megan (Maurice) Vincent, Sean (Erica) Kane and Marty Kane.  He loved his 7 grand nieces and nephews.  Cherished and fun-loving cousin and friend to many.  Born in Waterloo, IA to the late Gerald and Frances (nee Reidy) Riley, he went to Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, WI and Loras College in Dubuque, IA.  While at Loras he met Ellen and they married shortly after graduation in Chicago. He began his career as a manager at Sears before being called up to serve in the Army for the Vietnam War.  While in Vietnam he was able to come home to be with Ellen for the birth of their first child (Martin).  After Vietnam Gary worked in management and enjoyed time golfing, talking sports, being with friends & family, and watching his most beloved Green Bay Packers. Resting at the Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Hwy.
