On Monday, February 11th, 2019, Michele (Geiger) Haggerty, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 58. Born on September 23rd, 1960, she grew up in Towanda, graduating from Towanda Area School District in 1978 and receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Mansfield University in 1982. Michele went on to teach kindergarten, first and third grades for 32 years at Towanda Area School District. She had a life-long passion for educating children and enjoyed infusing music into her classroom environment. Michele married Joe Haggerty from Athens, PA on June 30th, 1990 and together they raised two wonderful daughters, Meredith (Evan) Meister and Melinda Haggerty, and one miracle son, Evan Haggerty. She was a beloved member of the Towanda Assembly of God Church where she contributed as a pianist, board member, treasurer, and was highly involved in the youth program. She was known for her infectiously positive attitude, sense of selflessness, unwavering faith in God, and her desire to help others. Michele kept a smile on her face regardless of the obstacles in front of her. All that had the privilege of meeting her recognized her overwhelming love and compassion. Michele was the daughter of Reverend Thomas A. Geiger and Pauline (Merritts) Geiger, and the beloved sister of Miriam, Tom (Cindy), Tim, and Melinda Geiger. One of her greatest excitements in life was becoming a grandmother to Laila and Michelle Meister, whom she spent her final years teaching and loving unconditionally. She was pre-deceased by her mother, Pauline, and her eldest sister, Ruth Ann. Visiting hours are open to the public on Friday, February 15th from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home 217 York Ave. Towanda, PA. A private memorial service will be at the convenience of the family.
