A Catholic funeral service mass will be celebrated for Maria Martinez age 88 of Gilberts, IL, at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at St. Margaret Mary Caholic Church with Father John Rathinam officiating. Interment will follow to Dawon County Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home. Viewing will be held on Tuesday February 12th with a Rosary prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel. Maria passed away on Sunday February 10, 2019 in Lubbock, TX. She was born on July 15, 1931 in Juan Aldama, Zacatecas, Mexico. Maria married Francisco Martinez on May 17, 1946 in Juan Aldama, Zacatecas, Mexico. Maria was preceded by her husband, Francisco Martinez; her parents, Sara and Francisco Hernandez; her daughters, Maria Elena Martinez, San Juana Martinez, Rosario Martines, and Herlinda Martinez; her son, Jaimito Martinez; her sister, Ofelia Hernandez; her brothers, Francisco, Emilio, Jesus and Arsenio Hernandez. Maria was a homemaker and a lifelong Catholic. She had a passion for cooking and feeding everyone. She enjoyed knitting. Maria is survived by her daughters, Lilia Carbajal and Juan of Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, Yolanda Esparza and Manuel of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, Rosalinda Padilla and Amador, Jr. of Lamesa, Texas, and Maria Martinez of Elgin, IL.; her sons, Juan Martinez and Hilda of Gilberts, IL., and Luis Enrique Martinez and Mari of Phoenix, AZ.; her sisters, Sara Duran of Indianapolis, Justina Gonzales of Lamesa, Texas, and Josefina Hernandez of Juan Aldama, Zacatecas, Mexico; her brothers, Celicio Hernandez of Lamesa, Texas, Helo Hernandez of Ohio and Paulino Hernandez of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico; 24 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
