Loraine B Jacobs April 7 1926 February 5 2019

Loraine Betty Jacobs passed away at Angels Home in Benicia California at age 92. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Gus and Emma von Glahn of Muskegon, Michigan, her Sister Carol von Glahn and husband Arnold. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Ann (John) Turner of Carmel, CA, her sons Joshua Samuel (Kathleen) Jacobs of Benicia, CA and Matthew Aaron (Vicki) Jacobs of Santa Cruz, CA; Her grandchildren, Ryan, Kip and Zachary Turner, Andrew and Nathaniel Jacobs and Suzi and Justin Jacobs; Her sister Catherine (Tom) Johnson and brother Noel (Mary) von Glahn; Nieces Margaret (Trip) Eldridge, Ann (John) Myers and nephew Tom Johnson. Loraine graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950 and a Masters in English Literature in 1958 from the University of Michigan. She was a dedicated educator and taught many generations of high school students at Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, CA. She raised three successful children single handedly, at times working three jobs to make ends meet. She would never complain despite her long hours. She loved to teach and even after retirement continued to work tutoring students well into her 80’s. She loved Santa Cruz and spending time with her many dear friends and former neighbors, sharing meals and going to the movies. She especially loved spending time with her seven grandchildren, who filled her heart with joy. She was always positive and was able to see the best in people, even when others could not. She was generous with her time and money and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She was a strong supporter of women’s rights and equality. She loved Kaleidoscopes and hand blown art glass. She was not a great cook but forced her children to learn this skill for which they are eternally grateful. She made great pies, especially the apple pie. There would be no incorrect grammar while she was around but she would never make anyone feel bad about their poor English abilities, clearly not a genetic trait. Her smile, gentle manner and the sense of stability she gave to a crazy world will be missed by all. She will be laid to rest with her parents and Sister Carol at Lakeside Cemetery, Muskegon, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to support the library fund at Congregation B’nai Tikvah, Walnut Creek, California.
