Jim Schaaf December 18, 1954 – February 13, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Jim Schaaf was born on December 18th, 1954, in Atkinson, NE to Raymond and Theresa Schaaf and departed this life on February 13th, 2019 at the Buffet Cancer Center at UNMC in Omaha, NE. Jim attended grade school at District 99 south of Atkinson, NE and in Emmet, NE and then graduated from O’Neill Public High School in 1973. On November 16th, 1974, Jim was united in marriage to Sharon Kramer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Atkinson, NE. To this union, 4 children were born, Casey, Mandy, Melissa, and Colby. In 1975, Jim and Sharon moved to Stuart, NE and that is where he lived for the remainder of his life. It was here that he found his love for ranching and cattle. In 1983, Jim and long time friend, Neal Kramer, started their own construction business and they worked together until Jim was diagnosed with leukemia in November 2017. Some of his favorite hobbies include fishing, hunting, and packing all of his grandkids into the vehicle to go out and check the cattle. He also had a love for slot machines as there was rarely a trip that him and Sharon took that he didn’t have to make a stop at a casino to throw in his $20 bucks. Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children Casey (Angie) Schaaf, of Atkinson; Mandy (Bryce) Naber, of Albion; Melissa (Ryan) Ellston, of Grand Island; and Colby Schaaf, of Stuart; eight grandchildren, Taylor, Kalli, Emily, Cadey, Britney, Morgan, Ashlynn, and Thomas; Siblings Annette Mahoney of Emmet, NE, John Schaaf and wife Linda of O’Neill, NE, Joe Schaaf and wife Connie of Emmet, NE, Denny Schaaf and wife Doris of O’Neill, NE, Vernie Schaaf and wife Angie of O’Neill, NE, Roy Schaaf and wife Audra of Atkinson, NE, Nick Schaaf and wife Alyce of Emmet, NE, and Mary Jo Hamik and husband Brian of Norfolk, NE; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Theresa Schaaf, grandparents, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Noreen Kramer.
