He was born on 06 Jul 1948 in East Chicago, IN to Joseph and Mildred (Hus) Navta. He grew up in Whiting, IN attending St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was a 1970 graduate of Valparaiso University and a 1974 graduate of Lutheran School of Theology/Seminex. His first call was at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Statesboro, GA. He served longest at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Elgin, IL. Throughout his career, he served many other ELCA churches in the Chicagoland area. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his longtime partner Lyn Mallman. He is also survived by son Christopher(Hilary Swanson) Navta of Fishers, IN, daughter Sarah(Christine Hunsicker) Navta of League City, TX, and three grandchildren, Joseph and Laurel Navta and Barry Hunsicker. A Funeral Service in memory of Jim will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Saint James Episcopal Church, 516 Washington Street, West Dundee with Rev. Donald Frye officiating. A visitation will be held immediately prior to the service at 1:30 p.m. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Jim to Heifer International at www.heifer.org ot 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202 or 855-948-6437.
