James Donald Griffith Sr, 85, of Camden, IN passed from this life at 4:07 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019 surrounded by his daughters. James was born on March 18, 1933 in Wofford, KY one of 7 children born to Arthur and Virginia (Fulkerson) Griffith and was raised in Corbin KY until joining the Navy in 1952. James was very proud of his 4 years in the Navy, serving upon the USS O’Bannon during the Korean War and testing of the Hydrogen Bomb. He married Pearl Turner from New Tazewell, TN on October 27, 1956 in Lafayette, IN and she survives. He went to night classes on the GI Bill and worked on his Associate’s Degree in Accounting but loved working with his hands instead and spent his working years as a Millwright. He worked at Holloway House in Lafayette, before being hired to open Wilsons Meat Packing in Logansport and then with Tyson’s Prepared Foods in Logansport, IN, currently known as IBP. He loved his job and exhibited a strong work ethic to his children and did all the repairs in his home and family vehicle’s himself before retirement. He was a proud veteran and supported many veteran organizations and recently went to DC on the Honor Flight. James was an avid Nascar and Indy car fan, loved spending time with family and friends and if you knew him, you knew he loved to talk. He really believed that he’d never met a stranger, because he knew you after your first encounter. Surviving daughters are: Connie (Dean) Cripe, Camden, IN. Shirley (Mendy) Griffith, Kokomo, IN Tena (Brian) Graf, Camden, IN Son-in-law Robert Hickman, Monticello, IN and a son James (Addiline) Griffith Jr, of Lafayette, IN; 11 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren; his brother Clifford (Kay) Griffith, Rocky Top. TN and Sister, Edna (Max) James of Lafayette, IN. He was proceeded in Death by his parents, daughter Theresa Denton, granddaughters, Brandi Overmyer and Kelly (Overmyer) Greathouse. His brothers, Henry Griffith, Albert Griffith, Jack Griffith, and Mae Meredith all of Lafayette, IN. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Hippensteel Funeral Home & Tribute Center, 405 Cottage Street, Delphi, IN with Pastor Randy Griffith officiating. Visitation will be 11-2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Camden Cemetery, Camden, IN At James request, memorials may be given to the Camden Cemetery Association.
