Gary Gene Watson, 74 of Brownstown, died at 7:26 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Brownstown with Don Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Griffith Cemetery, Brownstown with military rites by VFW Post 9770, Brownstown. Visitation will be for two hours prior to service time. Gary was born on Saturday, March 25, 1944 in Vandalia, IL to Gene and Wilma (McCormick) Watson. He married Judith S. Potter on August 29, 1965 at the St. Elmo Church of God. He was a retired correctional counselor with the State of Illinois Department of Corrections, Vandalia. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and VFW Post 9770, and had been a member of the Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department. He served 8 years in the United States Air Force attaining the rank of Captain. He is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Judy of Brownstown; son, Blaine Watson and his wife Debbie of Farmington, NM; daughter, Heather Lynn Watson of Gillespie; grandchildren, Aedan Watson, Audrey Watson and Kyler Stevenson.
