He was born on July 5, 1940 in Taylorville, the son of Arthur and Cleta (Chandler) Hurelbrink. He married Margaret “Peggy” Thomas on May 25, 1963 in Taylorville and was a follower of the Lutheran faith. Mr. Hurelbrink retired from Peabody Mine #10 after 29 years of work. Before he worked in the mine, he became a trained master carpenter, a trade he continued following his retirement from mining. He was extremely talented craftsman, skilled in all aspects of carpentry. Donald was a fan of all sports, especially NASCAR. He is survived by his wife: Peggy Hurelbrink of Edinburg; daughter: Anna Hurelbrink-Nick of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren: Katie Nick and James R. Tousignant; brothers: Mel Hurelbrink (Sandy) of Edinburg, Paul Hurelbrink (Sue) of Mt. Auburn and Richard Hurelbrink (Amy) of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson: Matthew Nick. Mr. Hurelbrink will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be planned at a later date on the family farm in rural Edinburg. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
