Chris’ Obituary Chris Eldon Turney, 76,a resident of the Gaston community passed away on Saturday February 9, 2019 at his home. Chris was born on September 7, 1942 in Garden City, KS. He was one of two sons born to Robert Turney and Virginia (Harbough) Woodall. He moved to Oregon at the age of seven settled in Dilley, OR. He attended Forest Grove High School graduating with the Class of 1960. He enlisted into the US Air Force and served his country as a weatherman. He was honorably discharged. Chris met his future wife; Valerie Whitlatch, while in high school. They dated while Chris was serving in the Air Force. They married on November 28, 1964 in Forest Grove, OR. They made their home in Cornelius until 1979 when they moved to their farm in Gaston. He started working as a Sheet metal worker for Fuitens Heating and Plumbing. He then started working as a Steamfitter for Local 290 in Portland. He helped build, the new Forest Grove High School, Neil Armstrong Middle School, Washington CO Jail and other major building projects in Washington Co. He retired in 2002. Chris was very artistic he enjoyed making jewelry, scrimshaw, wood carving, and building projects. He was also enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing. Valerie and Chris were snowbirds and enjoyed spending winters in Arizona most recently in Apache City, AZ. He was a master at BBQ a pastry chief, rolls and pies. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother; Don Turney, two step siblings; Mickey Woodall and Marlo Woodall.
