Charles “Chuckie” Elsworth Best, 69, of Wauchula, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Wauchula. He was born in Miami, Florida on September 6, 1949 and was a lifelong resident of Hardee County. He attended New Hope Baptist Church. Chuckie recently retired from Florida Fertilizer Company after nearly 40 years, where he was part owner. As a self-employed farmer, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was the core of his family and created unforgettable memories. He was known for his passion for cooking and often nurtured others by sharing this gift. Chuckie was “Pa” to his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruhl and Dolly Best, and sister, Debbie Best. Survivors include his wife, Gail Best of Wauchula, Florida; two daughters, Catrena Mitchell (Bill) of Fairfax Station, Virginia, and Summer Best of Ocala, Florida; one son, Chase Best (Stephanie) of Wauchula, Florida; one brother, James “Jimmie” Best (Marilyn) of Bowling Green, Florida; and three grandchildren, Abigail Mitchell, Naomi Mitchell, and Ruhl Best. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church at 3:30 P.M., Rev. Chris Bishop and Rev. Robert Roberts will officiate. Visitation is from 2:30 P.M. until service time. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florida Sheriff’s Boys Ranch.
