Obituary of Catherine Schell Catherine J. Schell, 92, of Gerry passed away Monday (February 18, 2019) in Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing Facility. Daughter of the late Axel F. and Edith Anderson Shell Catherine was born November 26, 1926 in Jamestown, New York. Catherine was a graduate of Falconer Central School and Valedictorian of her class, she went on to study nursing at Columbia University of New York. Catherine was accredited with the publication of twenty three books related to bible studies as well as being the co- founder of the Neighborhood Bible studies (NBS) which later became known as Q place. Established in 1960 NBS welcomed people of diverse backgrounds to be introduced to bible study in a non-assuming capacity. Within five years NBS registered 200 groups meeting in the northern suburbs of New York City, and groups began to show up in pockets all over the U.S. and Canada. NBS study guides were translated and published in twenty-five languages and spread globally. Over the next forty years NBS engaged more than a million people. Catherine is survived by a brother Stephen (Suzanne) Schell of Lakewood, NY as well as six nieces and nephews Stephanie Schell of Lakewood, NY, Karin Vogi of Rochester, NY, Marissa Shell of Bridgeford, ME, Jonathon Schell of Boston, MA, Cindy Schell of Washington State and Kathy Vignola of New Jersey. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Frederick A and Irving Schell. Visitation will not be observed. A memorial service will be held at the discretion of the family at a later date. Inurnment will be in Levant Cemetery, Falconer New York. Memorial contributions may be made to Q Place P.O. Box 1581 Wheaton, IL 60187.
