Brenda Womble Atkins, 78, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Friday, February 15, 2019, with her family at her side. Brenda is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Robert Atkins, daughters, Janet Orr and husband David of Richburg South Carolina, Amy Cooke and husband Brian of Indian Trail, North Carolina, and a granddaughter Emily Conder, of Mint Hill, and a step grandson Brian Cooke, of Greensboro, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Jesse Womble and Emily Gurley Womble, and her brother William Warren Womble. Brenda was born in Sanford, North Carolina on January 1941, where she lived her youth, graduating from Sanford High School, and then graduating from Greensboro College earning a music education degree, and eventually meeting her husband Robert there. Upon graduating, she and Robert lived in Roanoke, Virginia for a few years, and then moved to Charlotte where she became a music teacher for Charlotte – Mecklenburg School System for many years, as well as a music director for several local churches. Of strong Christian faith, Brenda loved cooking, needlework, family gatherings and especially spending time in the Young at Heart Group at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member. Brenda was a great lover of animals especially her beloved cats Sparkle and CeCe. A memorial service for Mrs. Atkins will be held at Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home on Saturday, February 23, 2018 at 11:30 AM with a reception of family and friends to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Brenda’s name may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1900 The Plaza, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28205.
