BRAXTON J. CAHOON December 13, 1949 – February 15, 2019 Braxton Jarvis Cahoon, 69, of 494 Main Street, Swan Quarter died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, February 15, 2019. Born in Beaufort County, N. C. on December 13, 1949, he was the son of the late Lewis Braxton and Zona Pearl Jarvis Cahoon. He was a graduate of the Class of 1968 at Mattamuskeet School, graduate of the former Durham Barber School in 1969 and was a licensed barber in Swan Quarter for many years. He farmed most of his life on the family farm in Hyde County and later was known as the “Veggie Man” in Ocracoke providing the island with fresh produce from his garden and also operated a produce stand at his home. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Cahoon Family Cemetery on Quarter Road. Raffael Farrow, Jr. will officiate. Surviving are a son, Lewis H. Cahoon, and wife, Natalie of Bath; two daughters, Jena C. Tunnell and husband, Greg of Greenville and Lisha C. Carawan and husband, Tracy of Swan Quarter; a sister, Emily C. Thomas, and husband, Bob of Swan Quarter; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to any fire department in Hyde County. The family will receive friends following the funeral at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter and other times at the home of his daughter Lisha C. Carawan. Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter
