Alton Calvin Mills November 15 1925 February 2 2019 (age 93)

Mr. Alton C. Mills, of Ararat, passed away on February 2nd. He was a well-respected farmer, he loved to fish, and was a World War II Army Veteran, serving on the hospital ship, Frances Y. Slanger. One of his favorite sayings was “by grabs boys, let’s get it done”. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Madge B. Mills; three children, Hugh Mills and wife, Debbie, Vance Mills and wife, Tana, and Janice Marion and husband, Tony, all of Ararat. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Sarah Terrell and husband, Ryan, Laura Mills, David Marion and wife, Kelly, Leigh Marion, and Taylor Mills and three great-grandchildren, Reese Terrell, Connor Mills, and Ellis Paige Marion. Alton was a life-long member of Ararat Friends Meeting and graveside services will be held at Ararat Friends on Tuesday, February 5th at 3:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to Ararat Cemetery Fund, 186 Monet Lane, Ararat, NC 27007 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
