Obituary of William Hanson William John Hanson, 89, of Jackson passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born and raised in Brooklyn and had lived in Staten Island before settling in Jackson in 2007. Bill served in the Merchant Marines from 1946 to 1951 and the United States Army during the Korean War. He then went on to join the Army Reserve. Bill worked for Exxon Mobile, previously SASSO, and the United States Postal Service. He also worked for American Can and the NYC Department of Sanitation. Bill was a member of the bocce club and the Italian American Club at Four Seasons Metedeconk, Jackson. He performed in several Broadway Rhythm plays and was a season ticket holder at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Bill loved classical music and spending time in Atlantic City. He was an adoring grandfather, loving father, and will be dearly missed. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Maria Hanson; brother, James Hanson; and sisters, Jacqueline Ferri and Charlotte Hanson. He is survived by his daughter, Maria Capretta and her husband, Chris of Freehold; grandchildren, Devin, Teresa, and Jennifer Capretta of Freehold; niece, Diane Peters and her husband, Frank of Toms River; nephew, John DeRosa and his wife, Suzanne of Mahopac, NY; six great nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Josephine DeRosa of Brooklyn. A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Relatives are friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 9:00 AM for the procession to his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 1289, Asbury Park, NJ 07712.
