OBITUARY William Lafayette Bainbridge III November 10, 1936 – January 2, 2019 Nashville – Bainbridge, William Lafayette III (Billy)- Nashville – died January 2, 2019 after a lengthy battle with multiple heath issues that slowed him down but never seemed to stop him. He was preceded in death by his mother Julia Wallace Bainbridge , father William Lafayette Bainbridge, Jr.; and brother Richard Satterfield Bainbridge . He is survived by his beloved wife Josephine Gourley Bainbridge , son William Gourley Bainbridge and wife Paige Ferragina Bainbridge; daughter Josephine Bainbridge Hull and husband Robert Edward Hull; brother Thomas Norton Bainbridge(Becky); brother-in-law William Haynie Gourley, Jr. ( Sherry); and adored grandchildren William McCall Bainbridge, Joseph Haynie Bainbridge, Robert Edward Hull, Jr. Margaret Saunders Hull, and William Bainbridge Hull. Billy was born November 10, 1936 in Nashville and attended Woodmont School, Montgomery Bell Academy, and Vanderbilt University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He worked in the development and homebuilding business with his father while serving in the Army Reserves, including a year stint at Fort Rucker in AL. He became one of Nashville’s leading builders and developers of affordable housing for the next 40 years. His happiest moments were spent in freezing duck blinds with his good friends along the Buffalo River; attending all his grandchildren’s sporting events; his summers growing up in Rock Island; and his 58 years of marriage with the love of his life he fondly called “Torch”. He could be a man of few words yet his one liners were always memorable. He was known for his strong work ethic and gentle spirit. He was a member of Westminster Church, The Buffalo River Hunting Club, the Richland Creek Commerce Association, Belle Meade Country Club, Homebuilders Association of TN, Greater Nashville Realtors, Board member at The Ensworth School where he spearheaded the purchase of surrounding homes enabling the creation of new athletic gyms and fields. Visitation with the family will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 3900 West End Ave from 12:00 – 2:00p.m. on Saturday January 5, 2019, with the memorial service at 2:00p.m. The family greatly appreciates all his doctors and the entire Palliative Care team at Vanderbilt. In lieu of flowers,contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
