William’s Obituary William Clair Houk stepped into the arms of Jesus on January 27, 2019. He was born on February 8, 1926 in New Castle to Oris and Gertrude (Gibson) Houk. He was married to Lorene Heckathorn Houk for 65 years. They raised four children together; Dave, Cindy (David Childs), Tim (Lauran) and Jim (Bobbi Jo). He had 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Clair drove truck for over 40 years and then helped his wife make candy at Houk’s Kandy Kitchen. He provided well for his family and gave his kids a good life. He attended Calvary Independent Church and served there faithfully for many years. The members there were very good to him after his wife passed. After her passing, he valiantly kept busy with the Christmas shoe boxes at church, visiting “the old people”, mowing his grass, keeping his pool ready for the grandkids and going out to eat – especially Wendy’s. They knew him by his ball cap “Super Grandpa” and they would have his food ready when they saw his red pickup pull in. There were very good to him. After a stroke, he ended up in Avalon Nursing Home where he received very good care. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lorene, brothers Jimmy, Russell and Jerry, and sister Twila. He will be greatly missed by his family, but they are all at peace that he is in Heaven with Jesus and his “sweetie” Lorene. A one hour visitation will be held on Saturday, February 2, from 1:00-2:00pm followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 at Calvary Independent Church, 424 E. Moody Avenue, New Castle, PA with the Rev.
