Obituary of Shirley Stanley Shirley Tollison Stanley, 79, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. Mrs. Stanley was born in Pell City, AL. She spent most of her life in Clarksdale, until moving to Nesbit, MS to live with her daughter. Most of her life was spent helping others, especially children. She was a mother to all children she knew. She raised her 3 brothers, her own two children, and mothered the children of Coahoma Opportunities HeadStart Program for 42 years. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all of her being. She was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School class. She served many years as a board member of the Sunflower School Consolidated Preservation Board. Mrs. Stanley was married to her husband, Dan Stanley, for 62 years until his death in 2017. She is survived by her two children, Danny Stanley (Mistie) of Marks, MS and Debbie Stanley Windsor (Jim) of Nesbit, MS; grandchildren Jessica Stanley Roberts (Chad), Cleveland, MS; Christen Stanley Pinner (TJ), Coldwater, MS and Kendall Windsor Trim (Josh) of Brandon, MS; great grandchildren Gregory Roberts, Lane Pinner, Whitten Trim and Olivia Trim. Brothers Jerry Tollison (Paulette), Memphis, TN; Milton Harper (Sandi), Olive Branch, MS; and Johnny Harper (Deborah) of Florence, AL. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews. The family requests that donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN to carry on Mrs. Stanley’s dedication to the lives of children. Visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Tuesday January 22, 2019 at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale, MS with the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
