Powless, 78, of Pontiac, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019, at 2:15 p.m. at her home with her son, Carl Jeffrey, at her bedside, where she fought dementia for seven years. Cremation rites will be accorded. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Sharon was born October 17, 1940, in Tacoma, WA to John Henry Johnson and Esther Lorraine (Julian) Johnson Smith. She is survived by her children, Kevin W. Powless of Rockford, IL, Vonda L. Powless Peaslee of Rockford, IL, Carl J. Powless of Bloomington, IL, and Kevin Patrick King of Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Judith Smith-Ross of Tacoma, WA and Gail Niumatalolo of Tacoma, WA; and she was blessed with eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents. Sharon worked for John S. Barns in Rockford, IL for over 33 years. She liked to cook and spend time with her family and friends. She was a devoted and loving mother, a caring sister, and was a cherished friend to everyone who knew her. She was very dedicated to her children and grandchildren. A special thank you to Joyce Swenson, the unknown guardian angel that did so much for her, and the hospice nurses, Tina and Cindy, that came in and helped. Memorials may be made to the family.
