Samuel “Sam” Smeltzer, 88, Elkhart, died 10:58 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2019 at Elkhart Place Assisted Living. He was born December 17, 1930 in Elkhart County to Calvin and Myrtle (Grosh) Smeltzer. He married Lois E. (Rassi) Smeltzer on January 27, 1952 at Bethel Missionary Church and she died on June 20, 2003. Surviving are daughters, Jan (Allan) Brough, Elkhart, Arlene (Terry) Manderfeld, Elkhart, a son, Dennis (Glenda) Smeltzer, Bristol, a daughter-in-law, Ruth Smeltzer, Goshen, 9 grandchildren, Chad Smeltzer, Nicole Joldersma, Kelly Griffin, Tracy Henderson, Adam Brough, Simeon Smeltzer, Zach Smeltzer, Cora Cahall, Emily Wegener, and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, Lois, a son, Arnold L. Smeltzer, and a great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Griffin. Sam was a 1948 graduate of Concord High School where he was the Valedictorian. He was a member and deacon of Bethel Missionary Church. Sam was a Chief Engineer at WCMR and worked for Crown International. He was an owner and operator of Sam’s Mobile Radio from 1968-2012. Sam loved gardening, camping, and outdoor activities. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, 27, 2019 at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main. Goshen. A service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at Bethel Missionary Church, 63473 CR 7, Goshen. Pastor Joel Gentz will officiate. Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery.
