He was born on July 26, 1976 to Robert and Connie (Calahan) Fugate. He attended Labette County High School in Altamont, graduating with the Class of 1996. Richard enjoyed fishing in his younger years, while his health allowed, and also took a special interest in his nephews who he treated like his own children. Survivors include his parents, Robert and Connie Fugate; two brothers, John Fugate of Richmond, OH, and Charles Fugate (wife, Megan) of Parsons, KS; one sister, Elizabeth Fugate of Montezuma, IN; as well as four nephews, Jackson Fugate, Lucas Fugate, Isaac Fugate, and Channing Fugate. A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, rural Oswego, at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 21, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Shriners Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
