The funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Colonial Funeral Home with Reverend John Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home and all other times at the home of her son, Benny Smith. Mrs. Smith was born on August 25, 1933 in Rockingham County to the late Bennett Dewey Atkins and Ruth Welch Atkins. Peggy enjoyed finding a good yard sale and a delicious buffet. She attended The Refuge Church in Mayodan. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Smith; daughter, Paige Gilley and brother, Dewey Atkins. Survivors include her son, Benny Smith and wife, Debbie; nieces, Patricia Bennett and husband, William and Frances Neugent and sister-in-law, Yvonne Atkins. Flowers are welcome, however memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375. Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
