Pamela Kay King September 27, 1955 – January 07, 2019 Share this obituary Local Florists Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Pamela Kay King was born on September 27, 1955, in Wichita, Kansas. She was the first of three children to Alise and Norman Prothro. From a young age, Pamela loved socializing and being around people, whether it was with friends, cousins and family, or staying up late to hang out with the adults at the numerous parties her parents hosted. She was an entertainer through her talents and love of dance (tap in particular), gymnastics, piano, fashion and design, as well as, an entertainer through her loving, gregarious, witty, comical and fiery personality. She loved to make people laugh and smile with her light-hearted pranks, fun stories and infectious laugh. Pamela graduated from RL Turner High School in Carrollton, TX in 1973 where she was a passionate member of the drill team. She went onto Wade College to receive a degree in fashion design. Upon graduation, she decided to continue her education and followed a dear friend to the University of Texas at El Paso. The move was a life changing decision for shortly thereafter she met the love of her life, Damon King. Pamela and Damon married on June 18th, 1977 and welcomed their only child and daughter Lauren Elizabeth, June 28, 1985. Lauren meant the world to Pamela; she went above and beyond to assure her only daughter had a magical, enriching life. Her creativity, and fun, unique style was highlighted in her planning of exciting vacations and elaborate parties and events for her daughter, as well as many others. Disneyworld was a vacation she adored and planned year after year. She also hosted an annual ‘Cousins Gingerbread House Decorating Party’ where family and close friends could gather in fun. She absolutely loved Christmas time and was very particular about her special tree ornaments and other beautiful collections that she adored. Halloween was a time for her to express creativity through her costume ideas and designs (humans and dogs) collecting multiple awards along the way. Attempting to scare the older trick or treaters was also a Halloween highlight. She loved games and sports of all sorts; if you were ever challenged by her you better bring your ‘A’ game. No matter what Pamela did, or where we went, her involvement guaranteed a fun, over-the-top and entertaining time. She lived life to the fullest and made certain that those she loved received only the best, plus some. Pamela (Pam, Pammie, Pam-Pam, soon to be Gigi) was loved so dearly by all: family, relatives, friends, all her daughter’s friends, neighbors, kids, her beloved dogs, teachers, doctors, her Girls Scouts…everyone. To say she will be missed tremendously, is an understatement. Pamela is preceded in death by her grandmother, Gwendolyn Leonard, grandfather Frank Leonard and father, Norman Gene Prothro. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Damon Charles King; daughter, Lauren King Saatkamp (Joseph) of Franklin, TN; mother, Alise Prothro of Rockwall, TX; brothers, Shawn Prothro of Garland, TX and Lance Prothro (Rhonda) of Rockwall, TX; future first grandchild; furry malti-poo children, Lulu and Lucy; furry schnoodle grandchild, Routeburn and hundreds of beloved relatives. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 pm on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Custer Road United Methodist Church, 6601 Custer Rd., Plano, TX 75023. Flowers should be sent to the church or, in lieu of flowers, a donation, in Pamela’s name, may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/.
