Michael Dumenko, 89, of Campbelltown, passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital on Monday, January 14, 2019. Born in Bukoviana, Ukraine, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Olena (Semovolinuik) Dumenko. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 62 years, Maria (Dacko) Dumenko. Mike and his family immigrated to America in 1950. They fled war torn Ukraine, living & working on a German farm and a Displaced Persons camp, eventually making their way to New York. Soon after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where they taught him to speak English. He rose to the rank of Sergeant, and served in the Military Intelligence Service as an interrogator, using many of the different Eastern European languages he knew. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Mike worked as an ambulance driver for the Nassau County Police Department, in NY. He went on to use his carpentry skills to customize vans into Police ambulances, and eventually building his dream house in Campbelltown, where he happily gardened, landscaped, read novels & traveled the world. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Joanne Rapacki & husband Raymond of NY, Michael Dumenko, Jr., of Campbelltown, and John Dumenko & wife Barbara of NY; three grandchildren: Dianna & husband Matthew, Nichole & husband David, and Christopher; five great grandchildren: Stella, Jake, Cole Michael, Leo, and Eva; and one sister, Maria Prytulak & many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Petro, Nina, Steve, and Maria. A viewing will be held from 5-7PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 West Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078, as well as at St. Ann’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 5408 Locust St., Harrisburg, PA 17109 on Thursday morning from 10-11AM. A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at 11AM on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at St. Ann’s with Reverend Father Michael G. Popson officiating. Burial will follow at Hershey Cemetery with military honors.
