Melissa Lois Shifflett, 48, of Madison and formerly of North Vernon, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Born June 21, 1970, in Madison, Melissa was the daughter of Larry Davidson and the late Sue Ellen (Aldridge) Rhoades. Melissa was the director of nursing for Manderley Health Care Center in Hanover and Osgood for five years and a nurse with Our Hospice of Jennings County. She enjoyed watching Judge Judy, dogs, and spending time with her family. Survivors include her sons, Bryant (Ali) Layman and Billy (Grace Donnelly) Neal, both of Madison; daughters, Paige Layman of Indianapolis, and Lakin (Makayla) Neal of Madison; father, Larry (Nora) Davidson of Hanover; brother, Chris (Amanda) Davidson of Hanover; sister, Lisa Rhoades of Lebanon; grandchildren, Bryson Layman, Addy Layman, Case Layman, Kali Murray, Brennen Neal, and Gemma Neal, all of Madison. She was preceded in death by her mother; and step-father, William Rhoades. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Memorials may be made to the Pavilion Churches through the funeral home.
