Mary Ann Hollingsworth Purviance, age 94, of Barren Plains, passed away January 16, 2019 at McCall Hospice House in in Simpsonville, South Carolina. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 1, 2019 at 12pm. Burial of Mrs. Purviance’s cremains will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Purviance was born September 14, 1924 in Barren Plains to the late J.E. and Mabel Corbin Hollingsworth. She was a homemaker and member of the Barren Plains Baptist Church. She loved to read, loved her dog, “Buddy” and her lap-dog, “Jake”. In addition to her parents Mrs. Purviance is preceded in death by her husband, U.S.A.F. Retired Major Alfred Purviance. Mrs. Purviance is survived by her sons, Jack H. Purviance of Taylors, SC and Jimmy (Annette) Purviance of Springfield; grandchildren, Jim (Cindy) Purviance and Zachary (Anna) Purviance of Greer, SC; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Claire and Brayden of Greer, SC; sister-in-law, Thelma L. Purviance of Athens, TN; niece, Thelma Lee (Tom) Pikciunas of Athens, TN. If so desired memorial contributions may be made to the Barren Plains Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
