Obituary for Linda Joy Barnes Print Hancock — Linda Joy Barnes, 77, passed away January 22, 2019 at her home. She was born in Presque Isle, May 06, 1941, daughter of Arthur and Ethel (Jordan) Gonzales. Linda graduated from Ellsworth High School class of 1959.In her younger years was a hiker, biker and enjoyed being outdoors. She hunted some, fished a little and spent most summer and quite a few winter weekends at the families little camp on Molasses Pond. Linda worked at the Ellsworth Woolen Mill and First National grocery store. She spent 27 years as an operator with New England Telephone, AT&T, Bell Atlantic and most other incarnations of Ma Bell. She spent 5 ½ years at J.T. Rosborough after retiring from the phone company. She worked for 2 years in the office at the First Congregational Church before retiring for good in 1999. Linda taught herself how to sew when she was young and was known as a fantastic seamstress throughout Downeast Maine. She hemmed, repaired or made clothes for numerous people in the area. She made lots of clothes for herself and her sons. She made Halloween costumes for her sons and won the costume contest when they went as the three little bears. She loved to make quilts, doll clothes and all kinds of different crafts with her sewing skills. She had been passing on her knowledge of sewing to her daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Linda was an avid reader, it was her favorite pastime. Except for a few years of going to Florida in the wintertime Linda was content to stay home and enjoy reading, sewing, having lunch with the ladies of her high school class and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Stephen and wife Jeri of Otis, Anthony and wife Carrie of Ellsworth and Christopher (Dino) of Hancock; daughters-in-law, Justice Barnes of Surry and Jennifer Liebermann of MA; sisters, Sharon Awalt and husband Kenneth of Ellsworth, Doreen McPeek and husband David of Mariaville and Ellen Archer of Searsport; grandchildren, Dylan Barnes, Brian London, Aimee and Ashlee Barnes, Rachel and Abigail Barnes and Christopher Barnes. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Harold Barnes; step-sons, Roger and Arden Barnes; sister, Donna Lyda; a niece and two nephews. A gathering in remembrance of Linda will be held 1:00pm, February 02, 2019 at Faith Community Fellowship, Bar Harbor Road, Trenton.
