June E. Summers December 29, 1934 – January 27, 2019 June E. Summers, 84, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Center for Hospice Care, South Bend. June was born on December 29, 1934 in South Bend to the late Ernest W. Summers and Mary M. (Bowers) Summers and has been a lifelong resident of this area, graduating in 1952 from Washington Clay High School. June also attended IUSB where she received her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. She served as secretary for the Indiana State Police Department for 39 years, retiring in 1997, and was recognized for her many years of honorable service as a member of the Indiana State Police Department. June took great interest in doing research of her family genealogy, and was a member of the former Altrusa International Club of South Bend, a women’s club dedicated to charity work. She also enjoyed working with her flowers. June is survived by her sisters, Frances Rininger of Mishawaka, and Beverly (Dan) Lonergan of Bertrand Township, MI; brother, Ernie (Beverly) Summers of Grand Rapids, MI; nephew, Karl Rininger; niece, Staci (Mark) Smith of Buchanan, MI; great nephews Matthew (Jontelle) Smith of Seattle, WA and Nicholas (Adara) Smith of South Bend, IN; and nieces and nephews; Alinda, Alanna, Alan, Barry, Bud, Michelle, Mickie, and Sheryl. June was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mary Summers; sister, Marilyn Johnson; and brother, George Summers; and nieces Ericka and Recie. Funeral services for June will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 1, 2019 at Palmer Funeral Home River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, where friends may gather with family one hour prior to services.
