Meade, 81, of Elyria went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, January 22, 2019 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center as a result of the illness, ANCA Vasculitis. He was born January 9, 1938 in Nauvoo, OH, was a 1956 graduate of Portsmouth West High School and a member of the National Honor Society. Joe served four years in The United States Navy and then attended Kent State Teachers College. For thirty eight years he was employed as an Electronic Engineering Technician at Bayer Diagnostics (formerly Gilford Instrument Labs) in Oberlin, retiring in 1999. At the age of eight, Joe accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Elyria and worked in the Sunday School office, operated the soundboard, made CDs and was a former deacon. He loved flowers and gardening and started his flowers and vegetables from seed in the basement. He and his wife had visited all fifty state capitals and many national parks. Other interests included Christian and classical music, genealogy, photography and golf. Joe is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Faith (nee Smith); sisters, Lenora Milyiori of Fort Worth, TX and Gwendolyn Baltzell of Pataskala, OH and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Nella (nee Varney) Meade and a sister, Marian Meade in 2001. The family of Joseph R. Meade express their thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Joe while at University Hospital. Friends will be received Monday January 28, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Road, Elyria. A funeral service will be Tuesday January 29, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the church with Pastors Patrick Odle and Craig Golden officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Christian School. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elyria.
