Lenoir- Jones Leroy Cottrell, age 92, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Caldwell Hospice. He was born in Caldwell County on May 18, 1926 to the late Leonard and Belvia Cottrell. Jones was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Newton Transportation, then later worked at Caldwell Freight. He was a long-time member of Buffalo Cove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Nancy Warlick Cottrell; and sisters, Cora Mae Chandler and Ruby Lee Ledford. Jones is survived by his children, Donna Greene and husband, Ira; son, Marty Cottrell and wife, Felicia; grandchildren, Allison Greene; Grant Greene; Nora Cottrell; Zane Cottrell and Owen Cottrell. A celebration of Jones’ life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jim Phillips officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Buffalo Cove Baptist Church, 4099 Cottrell Place, Lenoir, NC 28645.
