Joan’s Obituary Joan Gurley Diebner – 10/26/32 to 1/28/19 Joan B. (Gurley) Diebner, age 86 years, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2019 at Sea View Retreat in Rowley. Born in Beverly on October 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Bernice Davis Gurley and William Floyd Gurley. She is also predeceased by her late husband and the love of her life, Robert L. Diebner. Robert and Joan were married for 42 years before his passing. Joan was a resident of Beverly for her entire life except for a short time at Sea View Retreat. She graduated from Beverly High School in the class of 1950. Upon graduation, she attended a one-year business school in Boston. Following business school, Joan worked at the United Shoe Machinery Corporation prior to a long and successful career at Beverly Hospital. Joan worked in the business office of Beverly Hospital for 35 years (1957-1992) taking on many roles, including office manager. Never one to sit idle, she began a part-time job, shortly after her retirement, with North Shore Magnetic Imaging Center in Peabody (1993-2003). Joan was a long-time member of West Beach in Beverly Farms. She truly loved soaking up the sun and we often joked that she rarely got her bathing suit wet. Our family spent many years together enjoying the sun and sand at West Beach! Joan was an animal lover who was especially fond of cats. She was also an avid reader and shopper! Joan is survived by two daughters and their families. Karen Ferris and her husband Edward of Ipswich and their children Rachel Richardson and her husband Kevin and Meghan Ganley and her husband Ben. Her daughter Cheryl Clocher and her husband Bob of Beverly and their children Brenden and his wife Stephanie and Shaun and his fiancé Erica O’Brien. She is also survived by five great grandchildren Ayda Richardson, Eila and Emelia Ganley and McKenzie and Madison Clocher. Funeral Services will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem on Friday, February 1st, 2019 at 11am. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service on Friday, February 1st, 2019 from 10am to 11am. Relative and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
