Jean A. Dowdy, a long-time resident of Middletown, died unexpectedly after a short illness at ORMC. She was 66 years old. The daughter of the late Darris and Helen Stemple, she was born in Manhattan, NY on November 15, 1952. Jean was a generous, loving person who adored her grandchildren and always did what she could for them. She was an animal lover who particularly loved cats and birds. She is also survived by her son Michael Smith, daughter and son in law Tina and Oscar Melendez, stepson Mark Dowdy and wife Debbie, grandchildren Mark Jewis, Crystal Smith, Casey Smith, Michael Smith, Cameron Smith, Sarah, Caitlin, and great-granddaughters Natalie and Aria. Jean is predeceased by her son Jason Smith and grandson Dylan Jewis. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, January 13th at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown.
